Pioneers of Change

Last weekend I visited Pioneers of Change in Governors Island. This art/design show that went through for 2 weekends, showcased a modern interpretation on Dutch art and design. Exhibits were everything from a hands-on fix-your-own-clothes workshop to a Go Slow café that aimed to criticize the modern fast paced society we live in nowadays, where details and processes are not appreciated.
It was conceived […]

The World Expo Shanghai 2010 is planned to happen May 1st to Oct 31st, 2010.  Featuring a theme of “Better City, Better Life,” it seeks to “represent the common wish of the humankind for a better living in future urban environments.” They are expecting 70 million visitors and 200 participants.

But, despite of the ugliness of the logo […]

UP!

I actually did not think I was going to like this movie this much (that is, enough to write an entry about it).
In case you haven’t seen it, open a new window on your browser and run a search on your local movie theater. Now, continue reading.
UP is about an old man trying to have an adventure in South […]

Another post on the NYC subway system.

As I have mentioned before I’m very fond of subway maps for their functionality and simplicity. This is the reason this project called my attention: in July 2007 Russell Chun and Arun Wiita traveled the NYC Subway System for two weeks and created this interactive map.
The map has a link for each of the 468 New York […]

My New Discovery

Sandy Hook, NJ
Summer is the time of the year when I get homesick. Not Christmas, not New Years, not even my birthday, it is summer, when I want to go to the beach and I long for the days when I lived near the beach. (I grew up in Valencia, Venezuela where one can drive 45 minutes, including traffic and […]

Slabbiness

The Neutraface family has given birth to a new member: Neutraface Slab. The great people of House Industries have managed to put together the two things I love: Neutraface + a slab serif. Sweet! The brand-new Neutraface Slab features five display weights, four text weights with italics plus a unique stencil style.

Paper, Bugs and Isabella Rossellini

I belong to that minority of people that do not have cable TV in their houses. I have never felt the need for it, since I seriously don’t watch much TV to begin with.
But, recently when I heard an interview on Studio 360 with Isabella Rossellini where she talked about her show “Green Porno,” I felt a sudden urge to subscribe […]

Tokyo!

About a month ago I learned about Tokyo!, a movie project composed of three short films about the aforementioned city.
One of the things that came to my attention when reading about it, was that none of the directors are Japanese. It made me think: is this depiction going to be realistic or just a foreigner’s foolish detached perception of […]

TAS 2009

I’m trying to add a new tradition to my life, so I am assisting at The Armory Show every year. (So far, I have just attended two, but traditions have to start somewhere right?) This year it happened about two weeks ago, from March 5 to 8.
Compared to last year’s show, this year seemed slower. Less people showed up despite […]

How come this didn’t happen any sooner?

Finally, cell phone makers have come to their senses. Some of the largest cell phone manufacturers, including Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, T-Mobile, Orange, 3, AT&T and Vodafone are joining efforts to design a universal cell phone charger that will use 50% less energy.
The universal charger design will rely on a micro-USB connection and GSM Association […]
