My Next Vacation

I love all things from the sea. When I saw this video, now I will soon replace my Discovery Channel with a destination vacation to Japan.

Stencil Mania

I love typography and antiques. When I see them together I can’t control myself. So of course when I found one set of antique brass stencils, I had to buy another one. They are so much fun and practical. I make birthday cards or signs whenever I can.

Happy Travel!

I thought this was perfect for the holiday weekend travel crowd. I am one of those scary nervous people in planes. So when I saw this in the seat in front of me I was thinking WHAT??? Are you people kidding??? Give me a break.
This is a good example of typography gone wrong. The card reads:
If you are sitting in an […]

Savannah and Shop SCAD

Forsyth Park, Savannah, Ga
Last week my husband and I returned to Savannah, Georgia, and after being in New York City for almost a decade, it is a shocker to return to a southern city. The pace of life is much slower. The city of Savannah has grown so much since we left. When we went to college there, […]

Kanye West: Blogger

As most of you probably know, I am obsessed with all things hip hop. I love looking at trends in design that reach the most unexpected places. One resource I am always checking is Kanye West. I have to admit, I love Kanye. I know, I know, his ego is huge, but he is really talented, and most importantly, he has good taste.

I Love Comic Sans*

Comic Sans, how do I love thee?** Let me count the ways. First, you are super fun, and oh-so-casual.*** Second, the cut of the lower case ‘m’ makes me want to stare for hours. It is so thoughtfully balanced.**** The most interesting thing about Comic Sans is how many different places you can use it. You […]

In Search of Ornament

I have been obsessed with pattern art since college and researched the historical impact of it. There is one heavy hitter I have always admired, Owen Jones. In 1856 he published a book called The Grammar of Ornament. It was influential in the design world because it was a collection of historic pattern from around the world. Now, […]

Urban Classics

As you guys know, I am into all things urban. Because of this, I have always struggled with china. I have the silver I use for special occasions, but I never really found the right china for me.
I recently attended the NY Gift Fair and saw lovegrove & repucci. They design a line called New York Delft. I knew it was for me. […]

Gourmet

With the holidays fast approaching, I am scouring all sources for recipes and tips. Each year, we host a large Thanksgiving. With as many as 15 guests, being super organized is one of my saving graces. I plan the design: seating arrangements, silver, flowers, napkins and place cards. My husband is the head chef  —  I make dessert the night […]

Aesthetics

I love going out to events in the city and meeting people. I went to an event at Kate’s Paperie and met a furniture designer named Rainer.
We got in this long conversation about aesthetics and he gave me link to the Miho Museum, which has many wonderful items that are collected based on their aesthetics. I spent about […]
