For the Love of Bob

Bob Ross

Growing up one of my favorite things was to watch The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on PBS. Along with learning the proper techniques of the fan brush and how to create happy trees, rocks and clouds, I immediately fell in love with the trance-like rhythm of Bob’s calming voice. Bob would take the time to give his viewers the step-by-step instructions in creating one of his masterpieces all the while injecting his life philosophies such as “We make happy paintings, if you want sad things then watch the news” and “Art is too free to be defined by distinct rules, so if you want to paint a big olé’ oak tree go right ahead.”

Bob died in 1995 and the show has been off the air for quite some time. So, unfortunately, I have haven’t been able to get my Bob Ross fix since my VCR ate my tape of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross until Kari sent me BobRoss.FM . You can now listen to a continous stream of episodes using Winamp, Windows Media Player, iTunes, Real player or others. There is nothing more relaxing after a rough day then listening to the sweet, calming sounds of Bob Ross. Not only do you get to hear his voice you can hear the stroke of his paint brush and the scrape of his palette knife against his, most likely, oval canvas. So next time The Man gets you down pop on your headphones and relax to the sounds of Bob painting his ideal world of happy trees and rocks using the lovely hue of Van Dyke Brown.
